According to the Austin airport's passenger counts, as reported on their website, American is dying there. Their passenger count is down 25% YTD. That's pretty sad for an airline with a massive Texas presence. In addition to lower revenue, American also has higher costs (fewer fuel hedges, higher labor costs, and less efficient MD-80s on many domestic routes).
I can't imagine Alaska operating any routes where a quarter of last year's passengers don't show up this year (the possible exception being SEA/SFO/PDX-LAX, where a certain number of aircraft have to be positioned to go to Mexico every day).
