Not interested in award redemptions, even though they make a lot of sense, since I am hoping to earn some serious mileage on this trip. We haven't had much TATL travel this year, so we are left scrambling to try and re-up for Plat.
Oh, then I'd probably go with
zman's suggestion and book the K on the side you can upgrade and endure Y on the return, UNLESS the price difference of the mixed classes vs all K is not that significant. You could probably buy this route as two one-ways, to simplify online booking. Many DL RT fares are the total price of the one-ways.
FWIW, I don't think the seats you want will be released, but that's just MHO.
