How to book Flight on Continental ?

I read few threads, but didn't get the answer that I am looking, so if someone can reply then I'll appreciate.

I have miles in my Flying Blue account. I generally fly Continental Airlines Internationally. I know that Continental is going away to Star Alliance, so after October 1st, I will not be able to book any flights on Continental using my Flying Blue miles. (the rep told me that they don't know when they will stop, but I am guessing that after October 1st, they will not book a seat on Continental).

I want to book a flight on Continental only, but I have no sure plans to travel in next few months. So how do I use my Flying Blue miles before it goes away from Continental Airlines ?

I asked the FB reps and asked if I book a flight right now in CO for next year Jan/Feb and then later I want to change the flight, I will have to pay $75, but will that be allowed or not ? They said that after October 1st, they will not be able to make changes to Continental tickets (booked using FB miles). One other rep said that they don't know 100% rules. I called CO and they said that if the ticket was booked by FB, then any changes will have to come thru them.

So i am not sure if someone knows the exact rules and guide me what is the best way to use my miles.

Thanks in advance.
