The upgrades being handed out were due to "overbooking" on the AMS-CAI flight. As stated, they had room in business class and were upgrading the PE pax; however, since I had a special meal they were not allowed to upgrde my seat. She plainly stated that had I not had the special meal, I would have received a complimentary upgrade.
