For MAH4546's example, I believe he is trying to say lost revenue means Incremental Revenue derived from offering upgrades less lost revenue from customers using competitors or buying economy fares and then upgrading at the expense of purchasing J fares. He is not referring to a singular transaction but the net impact on the route of a policy change.
