Of course, you can walk to shopping from most anywhere in Beijing central city and that includes your hotel. However, shopping success may depend on what you are looking for in the first place. Your hotel is not near any of the more famous markets and malls popular with tourists, if that is what you asking--you'll need to use transport to get to those, but it's an easy trip. I'd personally recommend subway, as the system is easy to understand and navigate, signposted and mapped everywhere dual-language (Chinese and English), really cheap (RMB 2 per ride), and beats the traffic snarls. You can also do taxi for more far-flung places (i.e. "antique" furniture market, art district) or if you plan a lot of purchases. Just make sure you pick up a few hotel business cards to show returning taxi driver. Hotel staff can write down or tell taxi your destination outbound from hotel. Most shops and shopping centers in Beijing are open until 9:00, 9:30 or even 10:00 in the evening, so there's plenty of opportunity to shop after a day filled with touring.
