Assume they put you on the non-stop AC flight, so having been rerouted on AC you earned the miles you were entitled to on the AC flights you actually flew. In the case of being put on another carrier that is not a STAR partner, you can request the AE miles you'd otherwise have earned be credited to your account. Yours is not quite the same thing as the OP was asking about, or I was commenting on.
