I can see two ways: (i) Get two bags, around 18" and 22", and then choose the right one for each trip. I have "dedicated" bags for my Asia trips and for domestic flying/driving, and leave each prepacked with some stuff. (ii) Get just one bag, perhaps the 19" expandable. You have to decide in view of your travel patterns (trains, intra-Europe, around the world, etc) and carry-on regulations there.

I just found out that Amazon ships the TravelPro T-Pro Xtreme 19" for a reasonable $140 (including tax) to The Netherlands. What's your opinion on this roller? The bag seems to be made with nylon, which is what you recommended
Not familiar with this line, I hope others will have something to say. It has received good reviews at ebags. Its list price is $180, whereas Platinum5's is $540, whatever that tells us; their current sale prices at ebags are $89 and $119 respectively. The latter is expandable. So on paper at least the Plat5 would seem to be better value, although the Xtreme could be just fine. Heck, get both! Combined shipping should be pretty reasonable.
