Ideally, we lived in a society where we are all treated equal and the burden of proof was on the law enforcer. Unfortunately, due to certain events over the last few years, things have had to change. It’s easy to go to work in our safe workplace, enjoy a nice lunch out, go home to our safe homes at the end of the day and be able to freely post our opinions on things we read in the news. We are able to do these things because of the brave men and women relying on their intense training and intuition to defend our country and keep us safe. Every single day, people and events are stopped due to these individuals by putting the “burden of proof” on a guilty person. These men and women are trained to look for suspicious behavior and rely on that training every single day. Place yourself in that job. It’s now up to you to make sure there isn’t a person who is a threat to the crowd of thousands passing thru.
Now ask yourself, “Who would carry that amount of money on them and then hide it from the authorities?” If it’s not “dirty” money, why is it so difficult to just follow the rules and declare it? What harm comes from filling out a form and admitting I am carrying this much money? The harm is lying to the authorities by hiding it and keeping it a secret. Why would an innocent person who has legitimately worked hard for the money, not declare it? Does that behavior sound suspicious? I would say so.
Do innocent people get inconvenienced for a period of time? Of course they do. However, how many innocent people are inconvenienced vs. the amount of guilty people that are stopped?
If it’s up to me to prove I am innocent to continue to be able to speak freely and live a life of freedom, then so be it. If you are innocent, there is a system in place to protect you and to allow you to prove your innocence. Does it entail some inconveniencing? Yes. Is it fair? I think this day of age and circumstances, security trumps fairness. Unfortunately, this is the way it has to be to keep us safe and its a little naïve to think otherwise. I think instead of ridiculing the people defending our safety every single day of their lives, we should stop and think about “what if” they weren’t there………..
