Doesn't seem that Continental and Air France are getting along

I had a reward ticket booked from Neward to Barcelona. It was direct Continental going, with Air France (through Paris) returning. I was waitlisted on the direct flight on Continental coming back. I booked it months ago, and printed it all out.

Yesterday, it seems that Air France simple pulled out their sections of the ticket without any notification. I would not have known it if I hadn't looked up the record. When I called Continental, they said "Hey, where did your last two flights go?" I said that is what I want to know.

Anyway, Continental could not get any decent answer, so thanks to Continental they did put me on the direct flight home that I was wait-listed on.

But what is this that Air France is simply cancelling people's reward tickets. And it is not because they have cancelled those flights, because they are still available on the Air France website.

So despite assurances that all parties involved are committed to doing this in the most customer friendly way, it seems to me that there is real friction between the former allies. I don't know how else to explain it. If you do, I would be happy to listen.
