I sort of think what Citi is saying might be sort of true. My interpretation is that if you earn any points before your statement closing date, these points may be forfeited if you close your account before that statement closing date. In other words, let's say your stament closing date is on the 30th of each month and you charge $100 to the card on the 10th. You then call to cancel the card on the 20th. My guess is that you would not earn points on the $100 charge becuase your account was closed or non-active on the 30th. However, if you closed your accound some time the following month, you would earn points on the $100 charge.

In any case, that's only my guess.
