In the old Sofitel Privilege program, points wasn't earned if you booked a cheap prepaid stay. I was under the impression that the same rules was enforced with A-Club but I can't find a confirmation of this in the Terms and Conditions of the program.

Are you talking about Priceline or pre-paid non-refundable "Hot Deal" rates on the Sofitel site? If the latter, then yes they have always counted and earned points, even under the Privilege program.
