A couple of years ago, in looser credit days, I decided to re-align my credit card business and went for the Hilton AMEX and DL AMEX within a few months of each other. The Hilton card processed fine but the DL one was processed but had a ridiculously low credit limit (since adjusted). My credit score was 800+ before applying. Opening a lot of lines of credit in a short amount of time raises a lot of flags, as it obviously happened with me.
Experiences differ, of course. I don't doubt what you say, but I've never had such problems. Nevertheless, I agree that some spacing of credit card applications is a good idea.
