Am staying at the Hampton using points on June 22. Want another room and none is available for points.

My question is, how often does availability ever open up near the date you want?? Am I waisting my time calling Hilton to check on any "new" points openings for Santa Fe? I wanted the Hilton but again no room available for the last 5 months.
