I feel your pain, freespirit. Try booking GEG-PDX-LIT as two itineraries or GEG-BOI-LIT. If you can fly outbound on a Saturday, fly GEG-MDW-LIT. The GEG-MDW leg stops twice, but gets you there to make the connection with enough time for a popcorn run at MDW.

I recall flying direct PIT-MDW-STL, and the aircraft continued to HOU. One man who boarded with me in PIT chatted with the FA during our MDW stop and mentioned that he was going all the way to HOU. I found his itinerary strange as he could have booked with just one connection.
