The only time I've gotten upgraded to a room that is not a suite is at the Glendale Hilton where I've gotten a 'corner room'. It's larger than a normal room & has a nice view - they called it an upgrade so I'm assuming it is- but it's not a room I would have been willing to pay a premium for.
