As an OT aside, but this reminded me, over the past year-plus, the agriculture folks have been uber-diligent with dogs in the baggage claim area. I've seen quite a number of people having to throw away various food items. (I was even "busted" for not declaring coffee, which was "ok, you can bring it in, but you need to declare it in the future."
OMG, this reminds me. I completely forgot to post this, but I got bent over by Chilean customs about 3 months ago on a light from LIM. Had picked up a banana in the lounge at LIM and forgot to throw it out or eat it before passing through their scanner machines.
Flight arrived at SCL around 2 am and I had an early morning meeting, but these people still made me go through all kinds of "tramites" even though I diligently apologized and explained that I had merely forgot the food I stuck in my bag and was not "lying on a sworn document". The fine ended up being an absolutely ridiculous 180,000 Chilean Pesos. Needless to say, it was not a warm welcome to Chile.
