On most flights the orders taking seems to be done front to back. With the good crews that get the 'dine when you want' concept I've been asked when I want my food, the really good ones even if I want it quickly so I can sleep or slowly for a leisurely dining experience. Only once have I run into problems trying to chop things around and that was a few years ago.
