If your issuer blocks your card all you need to do is give them a call. Once they verify your card has not been misused they should release the block.
The sequence of events which trigger a block are SSI.
We first attempt to contact our card holder to verify if a transactions is authorized. If contact cannot be made the card is blocked until verification has been made.
It's a pain in the rear if your away and your card gets blocked but card fraud is rampant. Giving them a call before traveling won't hurt if you don't mind them knowing your on the road.
Here's a couple triggers:
Making several small purchases at different gas stations.
Making large purchases at electronics stores.
My account is flagged as a frequent traveler in the US, Canada, Mexico, and Europe.
My biggest fear about this is having the account frozen while in ND while attempting to get gas late at night in mid winter.
