I know this is somewhat off-topic, but just to expand of Shareholders post, Hilton Corp. own or manage very few hotels - of the Hilton banded properties they only own or manage 54, the remaining 170 are franchise.

Outside of the US the Hilton name is owned by Hilton Group (previously Ladbrookes) based in the UK - with the exception of 7 Conrad properties.

To get back on-topic it is generally accepted that Hilton Corporations Hilton properties are of a lower standard to Hilton Groups Hilton properties. In other words in general terms the brand is more upscale outside the US than within the US.

The are of course many wrinkles to the outside/inside US argument.
