When they say exactly, they mean exactly. If you have a middle name on your ID, you must have the same middle name (not a middle initial) on your boarding pass. Unfortunately, many people's frequent flyer accounts, credit cards, etc. do not have the exact same name as on their ID. I booked award tickets from my FF account. They have my name as it appears on my FFaccount, not as it appears on my ID.
