When you call DL I would play up the 1-hour-earlier departure and NOT the fact that the schedule has you landing at your destination an hour later. Tell them any excuse you can think of for why the earlier departure will JUST NOT WORK for you. Cite time to get to the airport, cut-off time for checking bags, getting through security,... all these will not work for you.
