While we've lost the 125% vs. 100% RDM bonus, the most material aspect of Platinum vs. Gold has stayed consistent ... upgrade priority. This matters much on routes such as EWR-IAH, EWR-SFO, EWR-SEA, etc. On those routes, not even all Platinums get upgraded, and Gold is generally useless.
There are of course some softer benefits as well, and I think CO goes out of its way to appreciate its Platinums, particularly when things go bad. And I've had my share of TPAC and TATL OpUps as a Platinum.
Heck, the difference between Plat and Gold is a mere 25K EQMs, so if you have a chance to go Platinum, by all means, do it.
I continue to believe there are too many Platinums and would welcome a tier above that level for the truly frequent flyers.
