Someone above stated something similar to this....you are a Diamond, but if you were somebody real important, like a president of a country, then they would give you a room.
I find this amazing, and all to frequent, in corporate America, espicially corporations that continue to underperform (like Hilton and any company Bollenbach has ever been associated with).
The Diamond member brings real money to the bottom line, positively impacts REVPAR, the occasional VIP really does not.
So often companies are penny wise and pound foolish. Vanguard Airlines, for isntance, recently lost a ton of business over their unwillingness to pay a $66 baggage delivery charge. Yes, they saved $66 but lost thousands in air fare this year alone.
Remember "Yours is a Very Bad Hotel"...it was part of the Hilton chain...no surprise at that.
The request/demand for a lower rate was not at all unreasonable...even in Canada.
