I think this is the best point in the thread.

This property has now lost Remko and all the money he would have spent in the coming year.

And what did they gain for their loss? No more than $1,000.

I've said it before, and I'll say it gain:

Corporate America is stupid.

Say it were your hotel and you had a customer who stayed over 133 nights per annum and that individual wanted to stay over a weekend at a rate of $122 in just ONE of your THREE HUNDRED AND NINETY FIVE ROOMS for the same $122 rate - would you let him? Or would you tell him to go pound sand when he balks at the $425 rate & forego serving him for the rest of the year and lose perhaps thousands of dollars in business.

Fundamentally & all kidding aside (peasant, Diamond VIP and all the other nonsense) - this isn't a $122 decision vs. a $425 decision - it potentially is a $207,400 decision. If you were in my employ and you had an opportunity to keep me from losing $207,400 by giving up $909 - I would hope that you would do it. If you didn't, I would find someone who would. And after they explained what they did - I WOULD PROMOTE THEM AS AN EXAMPLE OF AN INDIVIDUAL WHO SHOULD BE RICHLY REWARDED FOR THEIR ABILITY TO LOOK AT THE LONG-TERM VALUE OF THE CUSTOMER.
