Screeners are there to ensure that anything which can be used to harm the plane or persons on it don't get through - nothing more than that. It is the TSA doing what you are suggesting which is getting up everybody's nose.

Well it seems that he managed to harm himself & potentially others using whatever it was on the plane and so I would argue (but I'm not going there) they would have been doing their job

. That being said, I also realise that there are limits as to how far someone should be harrassed and belongings gone through whilst at Security. Also HMRC are supposed to stop the flow of funny substances into the UK should

Screeners be stopping them going out?
I will object to security going through my data, but if they really want to know about my visits to the doctor and peoples birthdays they are welcome to have a look. I don't travel with anything that I'd rather people didn't see. The last TSA inspection that I remember vividly was when I was one of two pax on the flight and I was randomly selected for screening. I had no problems with the guy giving my stuff the once over because a) I'm a guest in his country, and b) not only that he was polite and courteous throughout. I do make out that I'm really enjoying having my bag searched/being patted down (or groped as I once refered to it

) which possibly helps the situation or just annoys the bloke doing it.
