If I am not mistaken, if you access any record via your (logged in as you) AA.com account, it sticks to your "My Reservations" list. Whether or not you booked it yourself, as soon as you access it, it remains.

My mother-in-law booked her own flight and I was looking into seat changes for her (while I was logged in). Her record remained on my list until the flight cleared.

Sounds like the email got to you via type-o and then you accessed the reservation while you were logged in.
