Except that the article isn't an article, it's an editorial. The stupidest line: "If dogs and cats belonged at 36,000 feet, they would have wings." Yeah, because humans have wings? It's also out of date, since it claims that Southwest "doesn’t accept live animals in the cabin or cargo compartment other than those trained to assist people with disabilities," and WN just announced that in-cabin pets are allowed. Although the idea is supposed to be pet-friendly (i.e. airlines make pet travel difficult and unsafe, so don't do it), it conveys its message with mixed signals and is poorly written, IMHO.
