Ask the check-in agent to "short check" your bags to MSP. This happens all the time. You don't need a reason, though the agent may ask why as a way of making conversation. Doesn't matter what you say - having to get something out of them, or swap reading material, at MSP is fine.

If you decide at the last minute to continue flying your ticketed itinerary, you'll have to go landside to get your bags, re-check them, and re-enter via security. With 14 hours you're unlikely to want to do that and it wouldn't be a problem in any case, but people contemplating this strategy with shorter connections should keep this in mind as it could cause them to miss the connection.
