Not sure if the ticket has been purchased or not, but some of the fares permit a stopover. If so why not change the YVR-SFO segment for a future weekend trip.

To return you can simply purchase a one way SFO-YVR or a SFO-YVR-LHR ticket.

You get more miles - and a weekend away for minimal additional cost.
