I am flying from Montreal w/ connection through Detroit with final destination of Tampa.

I am trying to book my flight tonight and have a quick question which determines if I have enough time to make my connection.

Do I have to pickup my luggage in Detroit and re-check it?

I was thinking that I didn't because US customs examines everything while still in Montreal but can't remember.

My flight connection is through DTW (Detroit-Wayne County MI) and is only 1 hour. I am concerned that is too tight if I have to clear US customs and re-check luggage.

Any assistance is appreciated.
