Emphasis mine. I would say that most people would feel just as 'secure' with a codeshare, especially if the codeshare is on UA metal. I would agree that IF all is equal go without the codeshare as its simpler.
There are advantages to being on LH metal though. 200% EQM credit for LH Z class to BD Diamond Club, UA Z class is 100 %. LH can be upgraded with SWU, UA cannot. Depends on what your goal is really.
