Yes, I do agree it can get quite loud, but as VS let you select your seat at time of booking, it's not too hard to get one away from the bar or upstairs if on a 747. Most night flights I've been on don't have the loud crowd around the bar though, it's more a day flight thing.
The flip side to this is that as a reasonable late booking traveller on a farly expensive ticket, often it is only the less desirable seats near the drunkards that are left.
HKG and BOM seem to attract a fair share of boozers.
