I always assumed, evidently incorrectly, that the newer wing was considered the more desirable. I've never walked through the old wing, just the newer one, which feels like a big convention hotel. Next time, I'll have to take a walk through the Krung Thep wing. I'm always walking around the whole hotel, it seems, from the BTS to the banks on Charoen Krung, to Robinson's for this or that, to the vendors up the road, then down Soi Shangri-La to the Peninsula Pier. Besides a quick look-see once, the most I've ever done at the hotel is catch a cab.

Are any of the restaurants at the Shangri-La particularly good or otherwise noteworthy? I'm always willing to give a new place a try-- unless it's at the MO. (Long story.) Or the State Dome Tower. (Short story: overpriced.)
