According to the hotel website, the Krungthep wing is the more deluxe one, with bigger rooms and higher ceilings and is the one that's adjacent to the BTS station. And in any case, the Shangri-La wing will be undergoing renovations when the OP will be there. So, if the OP were to consider the Shangri-La, then clearly, the wing they would want to stay at this summer would be the Krungthep wing.
I should add that the 2 wings are a fair bit apart, and completely independent structures and each has a complete lobby, so renovation going on in one wing really would not affect someone staying in the other, other than if one wanted to dine at restaurants that were in the wing being renovated.
The Krung Thep wing is indeed closest to the BTS. It is also the wing with the best rooms and suites if that concerns you. The service at the krung thep is also much better, its like a different hotel to the main block.
