I've only been downgraded once and it was from J to Y+ ON MY BIRTHDAY.

The check in agent was very apologetic and said she would upgrade me to F if she could but the flight was completely full. I was very upset but did not get angry, these things happen. On my return flight I was pre-upgraded to F and the J&F crew came to the cabin before pushing back and sang Happy Birthday to me and had a little cake with a candle. Then the CSD said that she was sorry that I had been downgraded on my birthday and hoped that had made up for it.

It did!

BA does rock most of the time.
