ORD Connections to Canada

I suspect many of you will almost fall out of your chair when you read this question, but here goes: why do AC flyers dislike ORD so much? I am, admittedly, an inexperienced flyer and according to flightmemory.com I've only connected in ORD six times, five times arriving and departing on UA in Concourse B or C, but I found the airport to be reasonably modern and pleasant and the UA RCC seemed reasonably comfortable.

I ask because I'm planning to book a MCO-ORD-YEG flight in mid-July with a four hour stopover in ORD. Surely four hours in ORD can't be that bad? Or since my main airport stops are LHR, CDG, YHZ, and YYZ, perhaps I don't know what I'm missing?

Please correct my naivety.
