It seems like we are learning of new maintenance messages as I don't recall one that stated they slowed the plane down until recentlty. Is anyone familar with the depth of the messages in the system? Recently it seems like blackbox type data (speed changes, disengaging autopilot) which wouldn't seem to be maintenance related, are included in the logs.
As I understand it, the Airbus speed warning is based on the theory that the plane entered a high altitude stall. Does anyone know if the sequence of maintenance codes in the order they were received is consistent with a high alt. stall? IIRC one of the first codes was an electrical issue, followed by flight control switching to alternate, pri and sec failures, loss of pressure, etc. Would electrics fail early in a stall?
Also, if they wanted to decrease speed, don't they just dial that into the flight computer and let the autopilot slow the plane down? Why would they disengage the autopilot? Is that SOP through storms?
I am wondering if they had conflicting, bad information, believed the autopilot was behaving improperly and with no external reference led down a path that resulted in this outcome while thinking they were doing the right things.
Also curious about the mechanics of the maintenance reporting system. Presuming it relies on the integrity of the ship for power and an external antenna for operation, the fact that it reported what appears to be a 4 minute struggle with failing systems ending with cabin vertical speed (dive?) makes me think the ship was mostly intact during this period.
Any detailed knowledge would be insightful.
