Really, children, Ryanair is fine. And this is from someone whose done EK F, LX F, LH F and SQ F so far this year.
Brand new planes, four rows of emergency exit seats (which you can usually snag because people tend to take the first seat they get to), excellent punctuality and a better selection of food than you'd get on BA. If you're on hand baggage only its fine.
If it goes wrong, of course, then you are 100% screwed because if the planes are running 80% full, it will (logically) take up to 4 days to get you another seat if your flight is cancelled and you will get no compensation, no hotel, nothing for those 4 days. But that's why you have travel insurance.
