Would it be anathema if I were to admit on FT that I don't really enjoy travelling? I don't think I would rack up the 12-13 stays needed in any hotel (assuming double stay promotions...) on my own dime. I had a two year break from business travel a while back and I really enjoyed it.

But, it's definitely not the end of the world.

Status makes all the business travel I do more bearable and comfortable, and I was quite comfortable with SPG whenever I could use them. I'll miss that, and I think it's short sighted for my firm to have blanket removed them from the list.

For now, in China at least, it won't really be much of an issue as their coverage here isn't that great. Shangri-la will stand in reasonably well.
