Do they only ask for emergency contact information to/from the US? I think they should just ask for it for all flights, and make it optional.
The information needed for flights to the US is demanded by the US side, it's not BA's choice to take it (they are obliged to collect to allowed to fly passengers in). It's passport, date of birth, where you are staying. No emergency contact details.
