Need all you seasoned NY travelers to help me plan a vacation for a family of 4.

We will be arriving late Sat evening @ JFK (~ midnight) and have a hotel in Manhattan (Parker Meridien or Hyatt Grand Central; using points ) .

I figure my options are:
1. Taxi
2. Subway/Train/Taxi
3. Limo/Car Hire

I'm leaning towards item 1, however I don't know what the fare would be and whether the fare includes the tolls.

I wouldn't mind doing option 2, but I'm concerned about safety at midnight

If item 3 is not much more compared to item 3, I'd love to do it. However, I wouldn't who to hire. I've heard of Dial 7 which somehow elicits an impression to me of an outfit that may take advantage of me economically ($$)

Basically I'd like the most economical and safest way to get from JFK to Manhattan on a late Saturday evening.

Appreciate any other suggestions and assistance.
