you are much more forgiving than I would be in your situation.
IMO, I booked it properly/legally through the Hilton system for X amount of points. The fact that Hilton changes the amount of points required after I have made my reservation should be of no consequence to me, I should still receive the award I booked for the original amount of points deducted.
I would ask for your points back.
