No rooms that can hold 3 adults?

I was looking to book an award that would allow me, my wife, and a good friend to go on the Coast Starlight and the Amtrak people said there was no way to fit 3 adults into any of the rooms, even the biggest available Bedroom.

When I asked if this was just a coast starlight issue, they claimed it was a systemwide policy of 2 adults per room.

Now, I've never been on them, but the Amtrak website specifically says here: http://www.amtrak.com/viewlinerTour/viewliner.html

"The viewliner is designed for 2 passengers, but can accommodate 3 in a pinch."

We don't really care about it being a bit of a pinch, but no matter what I said the Amtrak people said they couldn't put 3 adults into that room. Only 2 adults and a child.

I'd like some advice as to how to proceed.

Should I just go ahead and book (then bring the print-out of the amtrak website to the conductor) or will the ask about occupancy at the time of booking? If so, should I tell a white lie and say 2 adults, 1 child (since the website says 3 adults is OK).

If anyone has any experience with this, it'd be greatly appreciated.
