My mom always reversed the process--after a visit to Hawaii, she'd head over to the Hilo Hattie's near her home in Orange County (CA) and buy the macademia nuts and food treats there as her souvenirs. Then she'd give them to her friends back home as her present "from Hawaii." Yeah, she could have got them cheaper from the on-island Costco stores and mailed 'em back home in one of those "fill it up" boxes from the Postal Service, but she figured it was just plain easier to do her gift shopping back home and not worry about anything while traveling.
