I am sure you can. You only do not get reimbursed - right? We have similar policies and I do not mind paying one or the other extra buck myself if I have a preference for a certain hotel.
...our new corporate spending limits plus this restriction mean I have to pay the difference + I cannot charge the HIS...and as my stays are usually 3-4 nights at a time and that difference is usually $50+/day I am not willing to pony up $200+.
We also cannot charge b'fast anymore...we have to stay at places that include
b'fast so if I stay at 4 pts. or aloft then the coffee and muffin doesn't go on the expense report either...sigh
Just five years ago I'd fly J whenever I wanted and stay wherever I'd like...times have changed
