I have found that Flightstats.com is an awesome flight tracker with a live map using Google to show you exactly where the flight is. I love zooming in seeing the cities and national parks the flight flies over as well as the stats including delays at the originating and arrival airport, historical delay info for AA flight numbers from DFW-SJC the distance to destination arrival and departure info.

The cool thing is this is free and easy to use. If you have a laptop with WiFI onboard you can track your flight. This is a mini Airshow with ability to zoom in on the states you are flying over.
