Taxis are not at every corner. You need to call for one or go to large hotel's cab stand. The drivers have to have passed a city knowledge exam and meet certain hygiene standards so it won't feel like NYC. When it is dry it is a great walking city. Drivers sometimes even stop for pedestrians so you may miss NYC.
There is some superb dining in Vancouver. The price are similar to the USA, but in Canadian $, so 40% less. The better chinese restaurants are some of the best outside Hong Kong.
