I am just a Silver, but I have had this status for years with FAR fewer paid stays than the minimum. I initially got the Silver status as a comp for the AMEX Hilton card. I think the reason why they let me keep Silver is because of the dollar amount I charge on that card, and because I convert a lot of FF miles each year to Hhonors points, which I use for free stays.
