AAA does need to be on your rental for the charges to be waived. However, if one of you would sign up for #1 Club then you can use whatever discount you would like and not have to worry about additional charges to add a spouse. Just go to hertz.com and join #1 Club -- just #1 Club and not Gold. You don't need to be #1 Club Gold for your spouse to automatically qualify. #1 Club is free to join.
